Sights and Sounds

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

I spend an average of 3 hours a day on the road and that’s more than enough time to take in the sights and sounds I happen to pass along the way. Some are music to the ears and some are eyesores. I particularly like checking out the giant billboards and being greeted by the serenades of the blind singers when I get off the mrt train. What I don’t like are seeing children begging on the streets because I believe they don’t belong there. Even the old people don’t belong on the streets. I just wish I could do something about it because I don’t think giving alms is going to help them get off the streets.

It’s my father’s birthday today. He would have been 59. It’s been 11 months since he died so next month would be his first death anniversary. We really miss him so much. It’s really difficult but we try our best to move on with life. To honor him, we try to continue what he started. The renovation of my mom’s ancestral home in Batangas is already finished. However, we may have to build a bigger garage because that is what the people wanting to rent the place are looking for. My brother is working on the Mustang restoration now and it would be finished hopefully next month. The hotel lodge in Bataan will take a while as it would require a lot of funds, but we’ll get there.

So, we’re all right and we’re getting by. And when we get sad, we just console ourselves with the dream that we’ll all be together again and our family will be whole once more.

40 degrees and rising

I never thought I’d say this, but I hate summer. Well maybe just this summer. It’s been unbearably hot and humid, even at night. Aside from that, most of the people I know are having fun, except for me. My siblings are on vacation from school and my friends are taking acting and swimming lessons after office hours. As for me, I can’t even go to the gym because I have to stay late at work. And this will probably go on until the next month. So I guess I’ll have my summer in July. Then I’ll hate the rainy season.

I rode the LRT2 last weekend and it was wonderful! Way better than MRT and fewer people too. But I must say that it’s the MRT I’m loyal to because it’s what I ride going home from work. It’s crowded, chaotic and brings out the worst in people. But it takes you home fast so nobody’s really complaining.

I get off at the QAve MRT Station so that’s not really home yet. I still have to ride an FX, which is another wonderful transportation. It’s airconditioned and doesn’t make so many stops because it’s already full once you step in, and almost all of the passengers get off at Fairview. So you see, Fairview may be Farview; but still, all roads lead there.

Now, an MRT going to Fairview — that would be delightful!
